American Solar Energy Society in the national spotlight
BOULDER, CO – There’s a new yearning for clean energy in the U.S. and the American Solar Energy Society has the votes to prove it.
The Boulder-based nonprofit will receive a $100,000 Recognition Award from American Express for being one of the top five finalists in The Members Project. The competition started with more than 7,000 project ideas to better the world, and American Express Cardmembers voted the ‘Wind and Solar for Residential’ project into 3rd place.
American Solar Energy Society will use the funds to help accelerate the development and use of renewable energy.
“The results of this competition send a clear message that there’s a growing hunger for clean energy across the U.S.,” said Neal Lurie, Director of Marketing for the American Solar Energy Society. “We’d like to thank American Express and its Cardmembers for adding their voice and for making a difference.”
Renewable energy sources, like wind and solar, are widely viewed as key to protecting the environment and boosting the economy. A recent ASES economic study showed that the renewable energy and energy efficiency industries generated nearly a trillion dollars in revenue and 8.5 million jobs in the U.S. in 2006.
The winning idea in The Members Project is an effort to provide millions of children in the developing world with safe drinking water. American Express is awarding $2 million to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF to implement this project. Learn more at: www.MembersProject.com
